Google Review QR Codes

Google review QR codes

A Google review QR code is a scannable code that opens your business's Google review form directly, so a customer can rate you without searching for you first. You can create one free in about five minutes using your Google Business Profile review link and any QR generator. Below are the exact steps. If you would rather not print and laminate it yourself, ReviewTap sells the same thing already printed on a card or counter stand, branded to your business, from R299.

Create your Google review QR code, free

Four steps. You need access to your Google Business Profile.

  1. Get your review link. Sign in to your Google Business Profile at business.google.com, select your business, and look for Ask for reviews or Get more reviews. Google gives you a short link that looks like g.page/r/…/review. Copy it.
No access to the profile? Find your business on Google Maps, tap Share, and copy the link. It works, but it opens your listing rather than the review form directly, which costs you a step and some completions. The Business Profile link is worth getting.
  2. Test it on your phone before you do anything else. Open the link. It should land on the star-rating box with your business name at the top. If it lands anywhere else, you have the wrong link and every code you print will be wrong.
  3. Turn it into a QR code. Paste the link into any QR code generator and download the image. Use PNG or SVG at the highest resolution offered. Avoid generators that require a signup and route through their own domain, because if that service disappears your printed codes die with it. A code that encodes your Google link directly cannot expire.
  4. Print it big enough and test the print. Minimum 2cm Γ— 2cm for a code someone holds, 5cm Γ— 5cm for a counter, larger for a wall or window. Keep good contrast and leave white space around the edge. Then scan the actual printed copy with a real phone, not the file on screen.

The mistakes that make printed codes useless

  • Linking to the listing instead of the review form. The customer arrives at your business page and has to find the review button. Most do not bother. This single mistake is the difference between a code that works and one that decorates a counter.
  • Using a redirect service that can expire. If the short-link service shuts down or the free tier lapses, every card you printed becomes a dead end and you will not find out for weeks.
  • Printing before testing. Test the link, then test the printed code. Two minutes now against a reprint later.
  • Putting it somewhere with no reason to scan. A QR code on its own is not an instruction. It needs a line of text telling the customer what happens and why, and it needs to be where the customer is happy β€” at the point of payment, at handover, at checkout β€” not by the door on the way out.
  • Only offering QR. A meaningful share of customers will not scan a code, either because they do not know how or because they do not trust it. An NFC tap works with no camera and no app, and having both on one unit costs nothing extra.

QR or NFC?

Both, on the same unit. They are not competing options and there is no reason to choose.

QR code NFC tap
How it works Customer opens camera and points Customer holds their phone against the card
Works on Any phone with a camera Most phones made in roughly the last six years
Distance Across a table or room Touching
Best for Table talkers, windows, receipts, posters Handover moments, counters, one-to-one
Fails when Poor light, cracked lens, customer does not know how Older phone, or NFC switched off

Every ReviewTap card and stand carries both. Whichever the customer reaches for, it works.

Order it printed instead

If you would rather skip the generator, the lamination and the reprint, this is what we sell.

Questions

How do I create a QR code for Google reviews?

Get your review link from your Google Business Profile under Ask for reviews, test that it opens the star-rating box, paste it into any QR code generator, and download the image at high resolution. Print it at least 2cm square and scan the printed copy to confirm it works.

Is a Google review QR code free?

Yes. Google does not charge for the review link, and QR generation is free. You only pay if you want it professionally printed on a card or stand, or branded to your business.

Do Google review QR codes expire?

A code that encodes your Google review link directly does not expire. A code created through a third-party short-link or tracking service can stop working if that service changes its terms or shuts down, which is why we recommend encoding the Google link itself.

Where should I put the QR code?

Wherever the customer is happiest, not wherever there is space. At the point of payment, at handover, on the table after a meal, or handed over by the technician who just finished the job. A code by the exit gets scanned by nobody.

Can one QR code work for multiple locations?

It should not. Each location needs its own code pointed at its own Google profile, otherwise every review lands on one listing and the other branches stay empty. On bulk orders we configure a separate destination per location at no extra cost.

Is using a QR code to ask for reviews allowed by Google?

Yes. Making it easier for a customer to find your review form is explicitly fine. What is not allowed is offering incentives for reviews, or screening customers so only happy ones reach Google. The full answer on what Google permits β†’

What size should a Google review QR code be printed?

At least 2cm Γ— 2cm for something held in the hand, 5cm Γ— 5cm on a counter, and larger for a wall or window. Keep strong contrast and a clear white margin around the code.

ReviewTap is rated 4.9 out of 5 across 29 Google reviews and has shipped over 800 orders to South African businesses.
